Ayuh,...... In my 45 years in NY, I never bothered with the trailer annual safety inspections, 'n was never asked by a cop for a safety sticker at a traffic stop,.....

At the Dmv, just a weigh ticket, 'n they issued a new serial number, that I never stamped into the frame,....

As far as inspections, I do my own lol. I fix anything that looks questionable every year, so much so that the boat yard that I use for bottom paint, always complements my trailer as being one of the few, that actually looks maintained (salt water). Just replaced the rusted roller bar pivot bolts today. My own inspection is a lot more rigorous than any state inspection.

If you buy a new trailer, even from another state, it will come with a manufacturers certificate of origin, which is all you need to get it titled and registered in Illinois.

Try fleet farm. 14’ bunk trailer for $1250.

I did actually purchase this unit. Karavan model. Nice little trailer. Had to go 50 miles one way. But it's a nice little piece. Looking at getting it "titled and registered" today and my dmv. "OH the joy!" LOL. It's like the most unhappiest people on the planet.

In NY the annual inspections are done and submitted by computer. When you go to renew the registration if you don't have an inspection on file within 12 months, they will refuse to register.

Cops look at the dashboard of your car for a current sticker, and I agree they don't ask about the trailer as long as you have the current reg sticker on the plate.

Back before about 1973 +-, trailers didn't have to be inspected. So, how can you currently get a new plate without a valid safety inspection?

Trailer inspection, and i think motorcycle inspection goes in the system differently and they are not locked to looking for an inspection in the system. 4 wheel vehicles go 2 consecutive years without inspection before they will decline re registration

This definitely happens with vehicles but doesn’t seem to be the case with trailers

No idea. I bought a new trailer and got the plate yesterday. Lol.

Trailers are Jan-Dec. All expire 12/31 no matter when you first registered it.

In Dec you get a letter / form in the mail to renew, and it asks for your inspection sticker serial number.

In the past when I bought new boats the dealer always went to the DMV ahead of time, so when I picked it up all the regs for the boat and trailer were already prepared. A few years ago I bought a brand new trailer by itself and all I got was the COA and bill of sale. The %^$#@ at the DMV refused to register it until I went to my local service station and could show her proof of inspection.

I hear all the time about people never inspecting trailers EVER. Maybe they don't go to MY local DMV.

I do all my trailer registration’s online now and it’s never asked for an inspection number. They never have at the DMV either. Only thing I can think of is something in the metro area as their regulations are tighter. I do usually get an inspection anyway. But for sure nobody ever looks

Never had my 3 trailers inspected in NY for the 13 years I lived there (up until I moved out 3 years ago). No problems

In NC, I asked about the trailer inspections and the inspection station guy just laughed.
