ok so i am trying to figure out if its my solenoids or my tilt motor . so i went out and bought one from napa. i specifically told them on the phone that its trim solenoid not starter. so my question is , is this, is this going to work? if so,
where does ground goto? I or S? on my old solenoid it says nothing of the sort. attached are both solenoids. old and new. i am still getting just clicking from both old solenoids. but nothing from the motor itself. i did have it working when it first came home. but i went to try it again and it didnt work. when i jump the 2 big poles on the old solenoids. nothing happens.....

the new one is grounded thru the case, connect your trigger wire to the S terminal. looks like old one had 5/16" studs, new one has 3/8" studs?

looks like generic bakelite casting. S = Start, I = Ignition. same as a starter relay.

Gee, jumper between the large battery terminals and see if the PTT motor works. If she no work, ARCO and others make aftermarket replacements.

i did jump between them... and no go. not even a spark from the 2 poles as for scotts comment. so now i dont need ground wire hooked up to it by just running the trigger wire to s terminal? or am i best to get the actuall tilt solenoids? i have a decent price for set of 2 of the actual solenoids needed. but if these still click are they good and its my tilt motor that i have to take apart and clean or at least clean and get it going? as for replacement motor i found one for under 200. so if i cannot clean and fix this one then its going to be ordered

If jumping the two large terminals does nothing the solenoid isn't the issue

should the solenoids not spark when jumped? i know on the solenoids on my io they sparked when i jumped them to see if the trim would work. should these ones not be the same? i have gone ahead and ordered new ones. as for the tilt motor i may end up having to replace it, so the end of the month i will be picking up a engine hoist, then buy the new motor. i should have it ready by next summer. lol

The issue isnt your solenoid. if you dont see any contact arcing (spark as you call it), either you have no power on the feed side, or the motor is shot.

either way, no current is flowing

A voltmeter should be used for proper diagnosis, even an el cheapo from the hardware store should work

Or, keep guessing and ordering parts? Cannon ammo cache depleted?

Anyway you can just apply 12 volts straight from the battery to the tilt motor, bypassing the solenoid altogether to see if the tilt motor does anything? Would this fry the wiring in the tilt motor?

It sounds like you have a 3 wire PTT motor. Make sure the black wire that grounds the PTT motor is clean and well connected to the battery negative termimal.

With 3-wire. Black is ground, +12volts to Blue is up, +12volts to Green is down
