Use a Skill type circular saw with the blade set just deep enough to penetrate the bottom of the wood. Use the side of the shoe on the saw that has the blade on it up against your sidewalls, this will leave a lip about 1-1/2" wide.

It's very easy to cut too deep with a sawzall or grinder and cut through the hull, this is a rookie mistake we see a lot of here... but if you do cut through the hull don't worry, it can be fixed.

After decking is cut use a flat bar between the bottom of the decking and the top of the stringer to pry the decking up.

Be careful and take your time with the saw.

Well the first thing is what is the boat sitting on?? A cradle to hold the hull true while you remove all the structural support out of it? Next did you take several measurements of the beam of the boat and record them for future use? Are you able to remove the cap from the boat? Have you read a bunch of the resto threads so you see the task at hand? Welcome to the DryDock ;)

Hi Rick, it is sitting on the trailer, not sure what you mean by the "beam" so I am not sure if I measured it or not, All i have removed thus far is seats, side panels, the engine cover and rotten floor wood. I have definately read a bunch of resto threads so I know....er uh think I know what I am getting in to. Thanks for the welcome to the dry dock LOL unfotunately with the boat this busted up I have been here for a while LOL

Ok is it a roller or bunk trailer? You can sometimes get away with it on a bunk if you build some knee walls under the outer chines of the hull to keep it from sagging and spreading when you remove the cap of the boat... The beam is the width of your boat.... when you remove the cap measure along the 2 sides of the boat every 2 feet or so and record the measurement across.... you will need to check this measurement to make sure the hull doesn't flex out of shape and you won't be able to fit the cap back on.

Have you checked the condition of the transom yet? You should dill some core samples down low on the transom to see if you have rot...Stringers will need to be checked also... Drill from the inside of the transom and don't go too deep and punch through the outside of the hull skin. I use a 1/4 bit and go in about 1 inch.... Check the drill shavings that come out....wet damp dark chips indicate rot....dry clean white/wood color is good....check a few spots....if all is good you can fill the holes with thickened resin to seal it up.

If you have a rotten transom you will need to pull the engine and outdrive to repair it. I don't want to overload you with too much too fast so we'll start with this :joyous:

Lol thanks. The stringers are solid but the cross braces...(not sure what those are called) are rotten. From a visuak inspection everything I. The engine compartment and back seems great but I will look closer at the transom

The cross braces are bulkheads...You will need to drill into the stringers in a few places to check them....it's the only way to tell if they are good or not.. Check your floatation foam for water too....it may be waterlogged looking at the condition of the deck.....if it's wet it will have to come out and be replaced...it will not dry out.....ever..

Hey guys just curious since the floor seems to be solid above where the foam is do u think that is a good indicator of the shape of the foam

Nope.... When you expose the foam take a piece of thin walled pipe....like a plumbing tailpiece... and push/twist it down into the foam...pull it out and push out the foam core out with a stick....squeeze the foam to see if it's holding water.

The challenge is getting the old stuff out LOL .... You can buy 2 part pour in foam like the Mfg uses or use the blue Dow foam boards and stand them up in the bays between the stringers and cut them off like I did.... Pics are in my thread. I got the foam from off a jobsite that was headed for the dumpster ;)

Re: OK need advice, here is where we are (Pictures)

OK this might be a question for a seperate post but since the engine has been sitting for 2 years I dont want to pull the old gas/oil through the motor, so I guess my question is 2 part.

1. How do I drain the gas tank.
2. How to I drain the oil without first running the motor?

Re: OK need advice, here is where we are (Pictures)

siphon it out with a hose, get a small 12v electric fuel pump from auto store and hook it to the fuel line and pump the old fuel out into a fuel can... You can run the motor off a small fuel tank to warm up the oil...
