I had the same problem with my 1993 115hp last year. It turned out that the float inside the tank came disconnected from the magnet. The float still floated but the magnet stayed down in the tank around the sensor which caused the alarm to sound constantly. I could pull the magnet up with a coat hanger and the alarm would stop. Like Rodbolt says... the only way to fix that problem is to replace the whole tank assembly. My local parts shop sells the tank assembly for about $35. I still haven't fixed it yet, I just top off the oil after every trip. It's on the "to do" list.
I just tell them to top off the tank before each fishing trip. then rewire the overheat around the module. but to keep it original test all the inputs then buy another module or tank assy. sometimes the float sticks and even with a new sensor it is still giving false info. best I remember the only way to change the float is to change the oil tank.
