Oil Question

I just bought a 99 Champion with a 99 Mercury 150 Optimax. In past boats I had always run synthetic oil. The dealer told me to run only Mercury oil in the Optimax. Is he just promoting Mercury oil or is he telling me this because it's better for that engine?

Believe your Owner's Manual.

I think DFI engines have different requirements than carbed or EFI engines. I know that the early FICHT engines conditioned the warranty on using special oil, so I think the Optis did as well.

I don't remember talking to a dealer who didn't tell me I needed to use whatever he sold.
