Re: oil mix, lower end oil change

Fuel mix is 50:1, raggy.

Assuming your engine is mechanical vs. hydroelectric shift, any marine outlet has standard outboard gearcase oil. If you have the hydroelectric shifter you will need the special oil that JohnnyRudes used for them.

To drain the gearcase, remove both the "vent" and "drain" plugs from the gearcase. They are straight slotted. DO NOT remove the Phillips head screw in the gearcase.

To fill, put the tube into the "drain" hole and pump oil in until it overflows the "vent" hole. Replace the "vent" plug first, with a NEW gasket, then the "drain" plug, also with a new gasket.

Viola! You are done. :)

Do yourself a big favor and find one of these cheap little lower unit lube pumps that fit on the oil bottle:

They work a lot better than the squeeze bottles when you're filling the lower unit from the bottom. A handy acessory for these is a 3/8"-16TPI acorn nut to fit over the end of the lower unit fitting to keep things nice and tidy when you're not using the pump.
