Hello, I discovered an oil leak, I think it's leaking from the back of the engine. In the photo I indicated the place where there are clearly traces of oil. This is the back part of the cover where the remote filter is attached; the tubes themselves that go to the filter and its front part are dry. It's wet at the back, on the side of the flying wheel. I don’t know anything about the possible causes and before I take action I would like to get advice on where to look?

But I noticed that a month ago the oil pressure gauge began to show a little less than usual. That is, when I start the engine, I don’t get 60, which drops by 40. But I get 45, which drops by 35. The same applies to the planning mode. But according to the instructions, these parameters are still within the acceptable range.

From my observations, the engine oil level is normal and does not drop.

The oil level in the power steering drops below level approximately once a month.

The traces of oil that I found behind the engine have a yellowish tint (not red).

There is a black oily film in the bilge, I tried to wash it, but this does not help for long.

Any tips? What can I do on board that will necessarily require taking the boat out and lift the engine?

I also called the service for this diagnosis, but they reported that the leak was coming from the bottom of the pan, where the fitting that the dipstick tube fits into is attached. But I think this is a mistake, if only because I found the leak location above. Which they couldn't find. And I always pump out the oil through the dipstick; If there was a leak there, I wouldn't create a vacuum to pump out the oil.

Depending on the motor the leak may be from the oil pressure switch or oil pressure sender. Feel below the distributor and see it there is a sending unit there

what year? the o-ring on the adapter could simply have dried up and failed. especially if the motor is 15 years or older.

could be an oil switch or sender as AD pointed out.

regarding oil pressure. could be any number of things. first of which would be oil viscosity degradation from heat or fuel contaminants.

have you done a recent oil and filter change?

I think we need more specific information on what model of engine and the hours on that engine.

Volvo Penta 5.7 OSXI-JF 2008 years, I have 1000 hours at this moment, but I must admit that most of the time I drive at idle.

I know where the oil pressure sensor is located, it's dry there.
But where is the switch? It seems to me that in my model it is all in one.

It’s dry in the area of the oil pressure sensor, it’s also dry in the area of the adapter tubes (front), and it’s wet in the back. But the question is whether oil could be leaking from the crankshaft oil seal, since the rear part of the adapter is the very rear part of the engine, beyond that there is only the flying wheel.

If noting is attached below and behind the Dizzy then it's probably leaaking between intake manifold and upper block

sender should be on block port just to the left or port of the distributor.
switch should be on the oil pump housing boss, in one of the two ports there.

I agree with Scott the most likely source is the adapter that’s bolted to the block, that or the oil lines bolted to it..
A rear main seal would be leaking between the oil pan and the bell housing.

Seems like you need to be looking for a ps leak if you are loosing level every few weeks. Would look at return line clamps going to ps cooler

Also the P/S actuator mounted on the transom mount is known to leak.
