1998 mercruiser 3.0l lx, boat was under water last year.. Shop repaired what needed and had it running fine. Went to start this year had some starter trouble, fixed that, now it starts up and blows the oil filter gasket out.. New oil filter, lubed the seal installed to contact + 1.1/4 turns. There def was not an old gasket still attached to the block. The small check valve seems to be moving freely. Any help is appreciated thanks

R u sure it's the correct filter? Also make sure all the passages on the block for the filter aren't obstructed to ensure flow to filter and return to the block. Good luck!

I question the install procedure, almost all are just hand tight.the 1 1/4 turns I never heard of.

What's the oil pressure?

If it's blowing out the filter gasket (filter installed correctly) you must have something going on with the filter bypass or the oil pump's pressure relief valve.

Most likely the bypass in the oil pump is rusted and not regulating pressure. We did one of these last summer where the engine had sat with water in it. Replace the oil pump.

1 1/4 is right but its only an estimation. That probably equals hand tight.
