Well I took my boat to the lake today and it wouldnt start and the outdrive would not go down. I am gonna replace the starter, but how do I find out what kind of motor it is? I have a 1980 19'6'' OMC Galaxy with 120hp. It's blue color, Ford,Buick????? I also just replaced the toggle switch that raises and lowers the outdrive. Any ideas what would cause it to now lower?? Thanks for you help!!!!!!!!!

Ayuh,... My guess is, it's a 2.5l Chevy based motor...

Re: Oh Boy!!!

Solenoids not working would keep the outdrive from tilting up and down..... if the starter solenoid isn't working either that may be your problem and not your whole starter. That was my problem, and a lot cheaper than a new starter.

Sorry, did not see your other post, disregard my solenoid to fix the starter problem.

Update; Thanks for all your replys. I found out that is a GM motor. I got all the bolts outs of the starter except for one and that ONE bolt I had to jack up the motor which was fairly easy to do. These are so helpful, thanks to everyone who gives their advice
