There are 2 sender looking things for the oil pressure, and 2 for temp.

You have switches for the alarm, and senders for the gauge.

For temp, the alarm switch usually closes at 210? and creates a complete path for the alarm. Same with oil pressure Switch, below 3-7psi the switch is closed and sounds the alarm, above those pressures the switch is open. No alarm.

The senders for the gauge are a variable resistor that gives you different readings on the gauge, not just on and off like a switch.

Does that clear things up a bit?

Re: oem part numbers

I'm curious about your 2 wire sender.
The sender specific for that system (audio) is listed under the "Audio Warning System" in the OEM sites.
As Don said how they work is different, but side by side they LOOK identical.
Does the wiring look like someone has changed things?

As far as the chirping you get while cranking. That's the oil audio sender going south on ya. After almost 25yrs, change it. It works on the same principle as Don explained for the temp.

Re: oem part numbers

2 wire senders are probably aftermarket switches that do not ground through the base.
