I had ordered a pair of water deflectors (318357) through my local dealer, he calls back today and says BRP told him this part is now obsolete. Say it is obsolete, is there an alternative? Parts from a later model 35 hp, but it looks as though in 1978 there are 3 deflectors instead of the original 2

All of them are just pieces of fuel line with an outside diameter slightly above 3/8 inch and inside diameter of less than 1/8 inch, cut to size. You can make them yourself for less than $5.00 a foot. Trim flush with a single edged razor blade.
