Now what gimbal bearing

Cant get gimbal bearing out. Welded in. This is where I'm at now using slide hammer but it keeps slipping off

Is that carrier broken? Did you manage to pull the bearing out of the carrier? Well done. Never seen that before.

You're going to have to CAREFULLY drill the carrier and break it up , then remove the bits. I don't envy you!

Got it out wow. Also is that brass round thing part of the seal. I have a greasable bearing. The rubber doesnt seem to be tore on it. Also I know you are supposed to put new one in with slots on inside of boat but read guys doing it facing out too so they can remove bearing if it gets like this again

Can I replace that seal now or does that have to be done through inside

The only reason to install the tolerance ring with the slots facing outward is if you have an old MC-1 drive with no gimble bearing grease zerk fitting. Then you can easily pop out the gimble bearing during yearly maintenance and re-grease the bearing, with a special adapter.

I have a MC-1 drive, and have to grease the gimble bearing like this.

Ayuh,.... I don't recommend it,... The carrier is part of the bearin' assembly, it wears too,.....

If ya want too, it goes in from this side,......

It does little or nothing, as it's only supposed to slow the grease purged from the gimbel bearin', from gettin' inside the boat,.....
If ya don't over grease the gimbel bearin', it really does nothing,.....

I've read on this forum the seal isn't worth the trouble of replacing. If you install another sealed gimbal bearing, the seal is worthless. Apparently it's purpose is to keep excess grease from a greaseable bearing from entering the boat.
