So recently my boat decided not to start .
I checked the fuel filter , the fuel inside it was good . I changed the fuel pump , didn't work . So then I pulled and cleaned the carburetor, there was no fuel in it . Put it back on the engine and still not running . Any thoughts . If I spray starter fluid in the carb it starts but for about 5-10 sec .
I have a 99' Bryant w/4.3l volvo penta

Being a 999 and have a carb sounds like a GL. What model GL is it?

It's most likely a diode in line with the ALT (alternator)
During starting the Yel/Red wire from the key sends power to the FP relay and turns on the pump. The pump fills the carb and motor starts

Once running the Yel/Red lead turns OFF the FP relay and what should happen is the ALT sends power to FP relay to turn it back ON. Either the diode or the ALT has an issue, most likely its the diode (item 23)
