Not enough throttle cable?

I have a '79 Evinrude 100 horse on a 16' Glastron. I am only getting 4000rpm under load and I know it has more. I backed off the throttle lock about an inch which let the throttle move up more, but still not getting anything. The adjustment bar is as far back as possible and the turn knob under the key is tight to the right(counter clockwise). Engine will hit 6000 rpm in idle if I hold the throttle forward. I am a complete novice on boats, this is my 1st and I have only had it a month. I could also use a good repair/maintenance book on this engine so I will not have to ask you'all every time I have a problem. Who prints the best book?

Thank you,
SJ

Check ebay for an original, or factory reprints at outboardbooks.com

The clymers and selocs are junk in my humble opinion.

What prop are you running?

Dern it.
I tried to do my homework and give all the info. I do not know the pitch. I will have to get to the lake and look. Is it on the base or on 1 of the blades?

Re: Not enough throttle cable?

Usually not on the blades.

Reason I ask, is it may be fine mechanically, just propped wrong. Just a thought if you cannot find anything wrong with it.

For every 1 pitch you increase, you lose 200 RPMS.

OOPS. What is top end on these ?

it doesnt matter what the top end rated rpms are, (unless you are exceeding it under load) .......just dont rev it much beyond a high idle on muffs or in neutral.

Nothing on e-bay. outboardbooks.com has them. Now do I want the owners manual or the service manual. Remember this is my 1st boat so I do not know much of what to do.

You want the service manual at the least and the parts manual if you plan to do much replacing in the future. Good luck.
