Re: North Florida Freeze

Those yankees in Jacksonville just need to move a lil further south? We saw a low of 40 & a high of 59 today. Currently 49. 'Posed to get a lil colder tonight, then warm up.

Y'know it really is ridiculous to think humans have much effect on this planet. Since we only occupy a small fraction of it. If'n we become too much of a problem Earth will just shrug it's shoulders and rid itself of us?

I could use a lil global warming right now. It's down to 44. And that's downright chilly for this floda boy ...

I do not agree with that statement. The facts are that it took millions of years for the Earth to manufacture the fossil fuels. Those fossil fuels contain lots of trapped CO2 and CH4, which are greenhouse gasses. We are currently liberating all that trapped gas in about 200 years.

Opinion: It is easy for me to see that we are affecting the planet. The only question is whether liberating all those greenhouse gasses will affect the earth in some way we can predict or not.

Still -37 wind chill here. Getting old. As for the GW opinions...I understand that the data has been proven purposefully misleading and ultimately is another way to remove more money from my pocket. If I didn't already pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to uncle sam and uncle Mark Dayton per year...I might not care.

Re: North Florida Freeze

Don't let the cold snap fool you, it was 80F a week ago and will be again by the end of the week...... in January :/ They're having heat waves in Australia. There is a whole other hemisphere after all. The beach is also getting closer every year and NJ is now getting hurricanes. It's getting so bad and the sea levels are getting so high that in NC the real estate lobbyists rammed through a law saying the state couldn't even talk about it the data least it hurt the all important real estate market on the XB. Which begs the question, why did they pass a law against something that they don't think is even happening? Because it happening, and they know it, of course.
It's even worse down in S.FL. They routinely flood out due to tidal surges and Miami is already trying to figure out what, if anything it can do to save itself. If you're not near the coast things may not be as apparent, but if you are there's no doubt about it. Better take that trip to the Maldives while you can, because it's literally disappearing under the sea....and no, it's not sinking.
Then there are the dying corals due to ocean acidification caused by dissolved CO2, massive overfishing which has reduced most stocks by 90%, a smog cloud in China so large it blots out the sun, reduces life expectancy by 15% and has caused a 400% spike in lung disease has mad over 2million acres of arable land unusable, Chernobyl & Fukushima Diachi (which is STILL leaking 18 months later btw), a trash "island" the size of Texas in the Pacific, etc, etc...., but we're not having an impact on the planet so it's ok ;)

Re: North Florida Freeze

why did they call that ice-covered land mass "Greenland"?

what I think shows how small-minded and self centered we are, is that we think the temps, weather and sea levels as of 1990 are at the perfect place--kinda like the "thermostat wars" that go on in every household between the people that live there. But the reason for this thinking is both practical and of our own making; 10,000 years ago the whole tribe simply moved with the changes. We have planted our selves and can't simply carry New York city, or our farm in Wisconsin, a couple hundred miles to follow, or escape, the conditions.

I will agree that there is a problem in some area's with pollution . I agree it should be cleaned up . But even if we make the place spotless , it will not stop climate change . If you truly think that our carbon footprint is the problem then turn off your power and start walking and rowing your boats .

Agreed. Even if the consensus was that AGW is real we wouldn't make the changes necessary to stop it.

Re: North Florida Freeze

Back to topic . Are there any concerns with freezing temps with an outboard ? With it tilted down all the way all of the water should drain out correct ?

1) No, as long as you perform the task in the second question.
2) Yes

Re: North Florida Freeze

ok so im not in the south but when u all got what u call cold we had a hi temp of -9 on mon w -45 wind chill. now i obviously i winterize here but my question is if its full of -50 antifreeze do you have to worry about wind chill or just temp. the boat is pretty sheltered from the wind as its parked beside the house and evergreens on the other side. im sure im good but like most of you it dont get this cold often. thanks

Re: North Florida Freeze

wind chill only affects how fast items will cool but only down to the ambient temperature... IE if it is -2 outside with a wind chill of minus a bazillion then a 200 degree item will cool very quickly right down to -2 but no lower
