I finished chopping up my last parts boat last night. It was a1988 Regal Medallion 185 last in the water in ‘22. I bought it as a parts boat that I suspected was safe enough for a cruise or 2. It was very rough interior wise but had a solid floor. The motor mounts ended up ripping out and had the 3.0L dancing in the boat on a hose test which sealed its fate. When I cut the bottom up last night I was was very surprised to find a solid transom, solid stringers and the original deck was not rotted. The transom wasn’t perfect but good enough it would have been safe to run without question. 95% dry. It was extremely tough to chop up.

Not sure how the only real rot was the motor mounts but that was the case. It came to me with one seat, bow seating removed, some of the vinyl trim removed and hanging, broken shifter ( working but very sloppy ) and non working gauges. Did not scream well cared for one bit

The front mount on the inlines always rots out. Little bit of bilge water sloshing around is all it takes if the bolts aren't sealed.

It is for sure the last fiberglass boat that I’m going to break down for parts. But also I have a spare everything for my ‘new’ boat except a shifter and an engine, so I really shouldn’t ever need another.

Yep, must have been stored properly over the years if there was minimal rot. Not everything is rotten after a few years. But ya never know.
