I am a former Forester owner myself. Sold it nearly three years ago now. Was a great boat for the family. A little on the small side at 16', but we only have Mama, Boy, and myself.

Mine was a 1975 Model 1600. When I bought it, it had a 125 Force on it. Shaft length was too long and just never ran right. Turns out the water jacket was cracked on #4 cylinder. Put on my Evinrude 120 (1991) and it turned that boat into an awesome ski boat. Lots more power and pleny of speed for footin.

Did a bunch of re-rigging and reupholstery, and paint work, and it ended up looking like this when I sold it.

2 Pic Album

I owned it for seven years.

Re: Nobody Else?

Thanks RP.

Actually, kinda funny story on how I wound up selling it. I destroyed my prop on my Sanger, and hadn't gotten a new one yet. I had a tournament the following week. My son was going to ski as well and we both needed some time on the water. I had the Forester for sale sitting across the street ftom my mom's. It'd been there for 2-3 months. I hooked up and took it to the lake at my mom's. My mom's neighbor 2 doors away winds up seeing me out there with the Forester and ends up buying it. He must've driven by the thing a hundred times.

I was given a 1987 21' Forester cuddy cabin, and Ive been trying to find others that have/had one, to get some general information. I am totally restoring the one i have from bow to stern. Do they still make these boats? I cant seem to find the company anywhere

Re: Nobody Else?

Nope. Forester went out of business. Used to be made right here in MN. Sorry I can't help you more than that.

Hi, I have a 1990 Forester 252 Escape. Although it is on it's 17th yr., it is in excellent condition. Many good times with family and friends. Great overnighter, cruiser etc. I am sorry Forester went out of business.

Was almost the owner of a 16ft mod v but when I took it out for a test run it leaked like you would not believe. It turned out that the former owner had it on stands and then took it off in an unconventional manner. Cracked the entire length.

Re: Nobody Else?

I would like more owners to speak up and post their pics as well.

I just bought a 88' 227 Escape this year and it's in pretty good condition. I'm new to boating but to me, as a new boater, it seems to handle like a dream. Other seasoned boaters that have been onboard with me agree in spades.

Its a cuddy cabin with either a 5.0 or 5.7 (5.7 I think) OMC. The engine has been replaced at some point but with the same type it came with (or so I am told)

My big issue is the OMC sterndrive. It "Bangs" or "Skipps" in forward gear. I read a ton about the known issue and have found that a company GLM makes stronger replacement gears. I also found that a faullty or stiff Trasnsom Shift Cable has been identified by many people to be the root cause of the issue.

Currently I have mine in for service and they are replacing the cable and a worn out Shift Bushing that fell out when they took off the sterdrive to put in the new cable. They tell me this "could" be the cause of my trouble and to try it out before getting into more costly repairs. I plan on tesing this week or next. If its not the problem I guess I'll be looking at putting in new GLM gears (about $550 + labor) or a full new lower unit with the Heavy GLM Gears already Installed about $1600 + labor)

A usefull Sites I found so far

Re: Nobody Else?

I JUST picked up a 16' 1986 Forester sterndrive Merc 120. I am unsure of the model. It seems responsive and should be a fun toy. I intend to get the kids up on skis next summer. I am cleaning it up and looking for decals.

Should be very fun.
