Hi all, live in MI and bought a 19.5 GLS last summer from a guy that never had the trailer in his name. There is a sticker on the other side of the trailer but nothing can be seen on it. So SOS is telling me I need to take the boat off the trailer and take it to a weigh station then with the weight they can assign me a new vin. So is that the easiest way to do this if I can't find the original vin? I think this trailer and boat was a retail package deal could I contact the manufacturer and get specifics on the trailer? Or if I had to go to a weigh station, can I just weight the boat and trailer and find the list weight on the boat and subtract that off? Thanks in advance for any help! GLE3

I wouldn’t think list weight for the boat would be very accurate (fuel, oil, water, grime, assorted equipment/tools and toys). If the office doesn’t require proof (scale tickets) someone with a set of scales for weighing race cars or aircraft you could weight it pretty fast at a boat ramp parking lot. Another option would be to contact the trailer builder. If the trailer is light enough at each weigh point, it could be weighed with bathroom scales.

A person typically has to run across commercial scales twice, once with the trailer and once without, unless you know someone who runs them who would let you drop the trailer on the scale. Of course they charge for each trip across the scales.

They need the weight of the trailer for registration purposes. I would call the service department at the trailer manufacturer and they can provide you an email that has the weight

there should also be a second location of the VIN on the trailer.
