no trim/tilt and engine won't crank

I've just bought a 1994 Mercury 135Hp Black Max. It's not been cranked for 2 years, but looks to of been well cared for and regularly serviced. I fully charged the battery and tilted the engine down - no problem. The next day all i got was a clicking from the solenoid. She won't crank either and i tried swapping the battery and using my car battery - but nothing. When i turn the power on the instruments go the wrong way, but the battery terminals are connected the right way round - i checked 10 times. Anyone any ideas? If not how can I manually tilt the engine up so i can trailer her to the mechanics. thanks

Check all leads and make sure that you dont have one that is grounded out against a piece of metal somewhere, check all fuses and breakers, the guges goind the wrong way is odd and suggest reverse polarity but you say that all the leads are on correctly. Also if you have a volt meter test the wires and make sure you ar getting the proper voltage through them.

Sounds like bad connection in the battery cables, mistral. Most likely is the ground cable connection to the engine block.

Tight is not good enough. Take them off and clean them.

You can manually tilt your motor up buy turning out the manual release screw. this should be on the starboard side of the mounting bracket , you will see a hole. Back the screw out 3-4 turns and you will be able to manually lift the motor.
