No Start

I'm new to boating and have taken on a project. Its a Blue Wave with a Yamaha 90 hp motor. The motor ran last year and then sat until now so I tried starting it I had no response from the motor. New battery and pumps and trim work. I found a red fused wire under the console and I'm assuming the fuse was bad because when I pulled the holder apart the fuse came apart in two pieces. So, first question, could this be the no start issue? The fuse end is stuck in the holder on one end. Any tips on how to get it out or just cut the wires and tie in a new holder? I will have lots of other questions soon but I want to get it started first.

Thanks

Welcome
Need a pic so we might be able to figure out how to get the fuse out

Don't know if the fuse is what's causing the issue but being a red wire it is a good chance that is at least part of the problem

check to see if the key switch is getting 12V+ to it on a red wire.
see if the brown wire gets 12V+ on it when key is turned to start position,
then see if the controller is in neutral

As alldodge said, post a few pictures and the bad fuse holder is the first place to start troubleshooting/repair.

gear is in neutral. I assume that these wires are attached to the ignition switch? I have 12v on one end of the fuse holder so I'm hoping that was the issue. Boat isn't here at the house but going out later to check. The fuses in the fuse holder are blade type and this one is cylindrical. The size was illegible, any idea what size it should be? 15? 20a

I cut out the old glass style fuse holder and installed a blade type but still no crank. Couldn't find a brown wire. Shifter is in neutral. Could it be or is there a neutral safety switch? anyone know where to find a schematic or are these all basically the same. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks for your help

as I said check to see where you have 12V+ under the different positions of the key switch.
you have not proved you have voltage to the key switch yet, much less anywhere else

On the back side of the ignition switch there are about 8 wires which I am not sure how to test. My meter's probes are not sharp enough anymore to penetrate the insulation so I disconnected the switch at the connector which should be the same thing. I couldn't find power on either circuit however, it could be that I am not getting a good ground. What is a good ground under the console to tie in to? also, you mention a brown wire which I was unable to locate. Pink w red, Yellow with red, black ( which I believe is gnd) and a few others I don't remember. It appears to be a 12 g wire from the battery to up under the console but unable to see where it ties in to but I'm thinking the fuse panel as all the accessories work. Is the fuse panel similar to a vehicles? It has several ACC circuits then the pumps and lights but no ignition that I can see. It is a lame excuse but it is just a bit over a 100 degrees outside which limits my time outside to about 2-3 hours. I'm going to go back out tomorrow and check on a couple of other things. BTW, the fuse at the battery is good in case your wondering.

Thanks for the help

should be a 7 or10 pin harness from the motor to the controller that contains all wiring needed to run the motor, but you are the olny one that knows what motor you have

I'm new to this so you gotta cut me a little slack. the labels on the motor are faded but this is the only number that's legible. It may be the SN but not sure.

does one of the stickers have a manufacture date on it?
is it a 2 sroke or 4 stroke?
is it an oil injected motor?

There should be a fuse holder with a fuse in it under the cowling of the motor. It's usually in a black rubber fuse holder. If you have accessories working in the "on" position of the ignition, I'd get a helper and see if you're getting 12v to the starter with the key in the "start" position. If not, you need to test the starter solenoid. Two big terminals and two small terminals. One big terminal is 12v all the time. The other has 12v when the key is in the start position. On the small terminals, same thing. Look for the fuse holder under the cowling. That stops everything on the motor.

If you don't have a help get some insulated jumper wires wire clips and a meter you can see from the key switch location. Clip the jumpers to the smaller coil wires on the starting contactor or relay and the other ends to those meter leads. Turn the switch to start and see if you have power to that coil. If not it could be that safety Neutral switch, find it and then make sure the lever is in neutral and jumper to try,

OK, checked today. I have 12v at the fuse in the cowling and there are 2 red wires under the console that are both hot. Could it be the ignition switch or still the solenoid?

But, there’s no power to either side of the starter.
The starting relay or contactor has to close before you get power. You need a wiring diagram or service manual, Or take to someone who knows how to troubleshoot. Makes no difference if its 2 or 4 stroke you need the service manual or diagram as suggested.
