I recently bought a boat with a 1993 merc 2.5 200 hp (carburated) after the engine sits for a couple of days the only way to start the engine is to spray fuel directly into the carbs and after four or five attempts it starts to work and start o-k. (loosing prime). I replaced the filters and the primer bulb and hoses from tank to engine. once its starts everything works fine i just can't let it sit for more then one day. I am a experienced mechanic but not on outboard engines. I assuming that the carbs are loosing fuel in the bowls and need to be rebuilt.
Please help thanks.

Re: no start

It sounds to me that the float bowl good use an adjustment and the jet could have a little crud stuck in there causing a restriction. How long did it sit before you got it?
