Another Newb at the keyboard...I have a 1988 25 HP Merc, I tried to start it today for the first time. I have no spark. I checked all connections and grounds.
I don't have any power to the CDI at all. I traced the only wire that goes back to the Quicksilver control, I did not find a break in the wire but yet it is grounded out. I did a search for this topic but didn't find much help. I would appreciate any help. I have spent the last 9 weeks or so rebuilding much of the boat and I would love to get this thing in the water!

Re: No Spark

Does it have a kill switch? Is it in the right position?

Re: No Spark

Does this engine have a mercury switch? If so is it located on the block?

Re: No Spark

A wire Could break inside the insulation so visual inspection wouldn't work. Only way to know for sure is cut a jumper and bypass if you can with a new piece of wire. Probably doesn't happen too often but can.

Re: No Spark

The closest wiring diagram I have close at hand is for the 1976 model year. If yours is similar that wire you mentioned should be grounded with the ignition switch in the off position and open in the run position. The mercury switch also will ground that circuit as massilionbuckeye mentioned. When it is grounded you will get no spark.
