I have a 1972 Johnson 65hp Stinger 2 Mean Machine that recently lost spark on all three cylinders while on the lake. The boat was running fine, cruising when all of it sudden it cut out and would not restart. After pulling a spark plug and testing for spark, there was none.
I unhooked the black and yellow wire that goes from the ignition switch to the power pack (to rule out a shorted or bad ignition switch), then rechecked for spark and still no spark.
Next i connected a mulitimeter to the leads coming off the stator as directed in an OMC manual and the test indicated a bad stator. I ordered an NOS stator, replaced it and still no spark.
Finally, replaced one ignition coil (to rule out the chance that all three coils went bad at the same time) and still nothing.
I plan to use the multimeter again to test the new stator but needed a break from working on it tonight. In the past I've gotten execellent advice from this forum so any additional info on this topic would be greatly appreciated.
