I have a 1970 mercury 800E 80hp.

Problem 1 : New plugs, battery and gas and sprayed either and nothing. tested plugs and no spark. When turn key the flywheel spins pretty fast and the starter gets warm.

Plan: I got a SELOC book and an OHM meter and was going to trace electrical system down to see where power stopped. Looked in distributer cap and it was corroded so that needs clean.

Question: Is this best plan and could she have a kill switch and I dont know what I am looking for?

Problem 2: How to do a compression test.

Question: Can I do a test when she will not fire?

thank you

Re: No spark and compression test questions

engine should not run while doing a compression test.. you should remove all plugs and connect engine compression gauge to one cylinder at the time and turn engine over until compression quits rising..usually about 3-5 secs.
how to trouible shoot electronics see below.
