No Regulator?

I have a 1974 70ESL74M 70HP Johnson. Evidently some engines of that era did not have voltage regulators. Maybe because the output amperage is low (6 AMPS).
At any rate, the gauge pack on the boat (67 Alum Starcraft Jupiter ) no longer functioned so I replaced it with a Digital Volt indicator and a couple of switches.
At "cruising" speed I am showing 16.7 volts.

My intentions where to eventually install a radio, & fishfinder as a minimum. I am worried about over-voltage situations for these electronics. I have been looking on the net, but can't seem to fine any type of reto-fit unit as a plug and play to regulate the voltage output. I can find some DC-DC converters, but not knowing much about electronics.... Well it opens up a lot more questions. Questions that are above my knowledge level.

Anyone know any fixes for this?

Give me a few minutes to examine the CDI book. I'm sure there is something in there. Later......

OK, I'm back. Combination rectifier/voltage regulator for your motor is CDI part number 193-3408. (non-regulated is 153-3408). Not sure if iboats has it listed yet, or not. Just pick up the phone and call. I'll bet they can get it if they don't have it on the shelf.

Nice thing, a regulator in the rectifier case as a direct substitute. Must be new. Three years ago I had to use the old brick shaped type.

Yeah, I just looked and iboats doesn't have it listed yet. As I said, give them a call.

Thank You, I will be checking this out. Probably a higher cost but certainly a easier install.

Customer Support could not find on iBoats. They have the non-regulated 153 prefix but not the 193 regulated.

Thanks again... especially F_R. for the part number.
Ordered from JMS Online out of Houston.
Will be hooking up wiring tomorrow in anticipation of regulated power.
