Malibu...

Don't forget one of the best computer fixin' tools right under your fingertips.... GOOGLE

I've had lots of questions answered about computer problems using Google.
Simply type in your error, or keyword of your problem, and you can usually get an answer.

If you're running Windows, then it's a good bet someone else has had the same problem as you.

And if I may suggest an excellent anti-virus program? Try Trend Micro Internet Security.
I use to run Norton and Zone Alarm, but I found Trend to work much better (although Zone Alarm has a better interface...imo)

You can run a free virus check at Trend's site:

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

It will have to download a pattern file and then run.

Trend found stuff that Norton left behind, so I was sold on it and purchased a full version which you can get at www.newegg.com. They sell both a cd and download version.

I also use Spybot S&D and Adaware.

H.

Re: No place like home!!!!!!!!!

Tks Homerr but my mind is blank now so I am going to stop and retry tomorrow

SBN...Tried what you said about running then rebooting and running again but I still come up with one trojan. Nowhere can I find once when it tells you you have a trojan, how you get rid of it. I must be missing something so I will stop for now and try when my feeble brain is in gear tomorrow. Will let you know what happens.

Did it look like this one?
Found Trojan Horse: Trojan-Downloader-Stubby, version 1, c:\windows\inf\farmmext.inf

Whatever you find, you have to quarantine it first and then delete it.

Re: No place like home!!!!!!!!!

Homerr, I too have Trend Micro, ZA, Norton, adawareSE, spybot along with others and none of them could find this trojan except the Webroot Spy Sweeper.

This boy would put 5 or 6 pop-ups while you had IE open, did not matter if it was up or down. You could leave for 30 minutes or so and come back and there would be 5 or 6 pop-up windows up.

Nothing porno or anything, just different advertisements.

Run the Spy Sweeper and found it and got rid of it and no pop-ups since.

None of the rest of them found it.

Malibu, run spy sweep, then click next, then either click remove or quarantine, I don't remember which now, I just run it again to see if it would find anything so I could tell you right, but nothing.

I keep it running all the time and it keeps stuff out also.

Re: No place like home!!!!!!!!!

I have had the same results as SBN. Spybot & adawareSE found some bugs but my problems persisted, spysweeper fixed the rest. Some of the fixes could only be performed at reboot.

Aldo

Homerr! I sure like that housecalls and I will do some looking into it and will probably end up purchasing it. I liked the results it gives you and the complete details afterwards. At least you have something to work with running that scan. I have always felt I didn't have any trojans in my computer as I am confident with my anti virus program and ZA firewall. Tks for putting me on to it.

Dunaruna....When you say spysweeper fixed the rest at reboot do you mean you purchased spysweeper then ran it and it work. I have run the check with spysweeper but now where can I correct what it finds wrong so that means it is telling me I have a problem but must buy it before it can correct. Am I right in thinking this? I hope so cause I am confused.

Re: No place like home!!!!!!!!!

I haven't bought it, I'm using the free trial version from 'download.com'.

It found about 14 nasties that spybot & adaware missed but it only fixed 13. The last (and the most troublesome) bug was fixed at the next reboot, spysweeper brought up a message box saying - "##### will be deleted at next reboot, do you want to reboot now?".

I have no idea how or why it did it that way but my problems are solved (for now  ). 'Download.com' is a great site to get different anti-spyware, if one doesn't work simply try another. I'm sick & tired of computer problems and constantly battling with spyware, I'll never pay money for a full version of anything.

Aldo

I will try download.com Aldo and see if it isn't a different way of downloading spysweeper than what I was doing. I seem to think I am the only one than can't download it.

Tks Dunaruna for the download site. It actually work, downloaded it and got rid of what it found. Now I know why you and SBN like it. Works real good! Wouldn't download on the other site for me and I was getting #$%^&*. It's good for 30 days so I will wait to see if I buy or not. Thanks!
