Come back one year!
First winter with an I/O. I did it myself. I followed the advice in the forums, drained everything, poured in some antifreeze to treat any water left in it, and waited all winter to find out if I'd effed it up after all.
I've had a lot to do on the boat so I've purposely held off the first start-up of the season, just so I wouldn't be distracted by having to deal with a cracked block, too
This morning I tightened the belts, checked the hoses, put in a new set of NGK's and fuel filter (I'll complete the tune-up next weekend).
Hooked up the muffs, crossed myself and turned the key. She fired on the first crank and settled right into a nice idle. I alternated between looking for water in the bilge and watching the temp gauge. She warmed up to 160 and stayed there. No steam or leaks in the ER. I let it run for 20 minutes, shut it down for a couple, and restarted it to see the temp start at 175 and come right back down to 160 in less than a minute. All normal so far.
I shut it down again, waited a half hour and checked the oil. Nice and clean and gold and oily. No sign of water in the bilge, either.
Woo-hoo!
