So, what are folks doing when they run into the shift cutout switches from an '86 ere MCM200 serial 0B452878 with the 2bbl mercarb 305cid.

Any quick way to tell if this switch is the "new" style or "old" style. 86 new and old. The parts diagram is not clear. If it has the newer style bellows as opposed to the old style bellows does that give a clue? The change was half way thru 86 if I recall.

They are NLA. Anyone know of an aftermarket switch? I don't have time to try and find and fit a newer switch plate and all that jazz unless they are a direct bolt on.

Someone ought to take a retirement project and make a universal kit. They could sell a hundred or so a year I bet with all the freshwater northern part of the country boats that are still decent.

The new switch is NC and opens a circuit. To use the new switch it need to be "in series" to the coil. activating the switch cuts power unlike the old type that put a ground on the coil what activated

The reason for the change is that Cherry (the switch manufacturer) stopped making that switch. Regardless of the shift plate design the switch on your engine is a -39670A28, which is listed as 'NLA, see service bulletin 02-01' (which I have attached). That lists the replacement kit as -864363A1, which is currently available. That is the kit you use to replace your broken switch. From memory the switch is the same contact arrangement (N.O.), so it should be just a straight swap. Either way, full instructions will be in the kit.

The attachment is a pdf, it should open with Adobe Reader... If it's asking for a different way to open, then your registry is corrupted...

It could be that your default pdf reader is set for a browser that was used to open the navionics site?
The link opens the pdf for me.

Do you have a few close up pictures of both sides of the switch you need to replace?
