Technical Data Engine designation V8-270-C
Compression ratio 9.4:1

Don't think I have ever seen Volvo give out any details on the cam other then lobe lift.
They seem to prefer you buy their $610.95 shaft.......

I always respected VP products, but after this ordeal, I found a company that is greedy, with a bad service and overcharging for everything.

Even that stupid blue drain plugs have a special thread so you cannot just put a screw+oring in.. They changed every single sensor in this engine, so you cannot just go to Autozone and buy one.

Hello guys,

I decided to update this page with some info. Boyette`s shop in Raleigh did an AWESOME job in the engine, those guys are pro`s!

I did at the end purchased a new VP camshaft, 2 new Heads, Oil pump e a lot of small parts. they rebuild the engine as it is supposed to and last weekend I put it back on the boat and it runs perfectly!!! I let the engine idling for almost 2 hours on the dry dock and yesterday took it back to the lake, runs like new and I could not be happier!

Lessons learned:

Do not do business with Rapido Marine in Florida, they sell bad engines!
Pay extra attention on your winterizing procedure!
Use the forum for questioning! There are awesome people here that love to help and learn

Thanks everybody!

Great glad you had a good outcome, I was not surprised by the low compression test results because when I looked back at your vid of the engine running with the fuel pressure and vacuum gauges hooked up, your idle vacuum reading was really low, like 12-10 inches of mecury, should be close to 18 and steady....

Good deal. When I repowered a few years back I saw enough stories like this from guys who got bad reman longblocks I just bucked up for a new base engine. Hopefully smooth sailing from here on out

Stephan, Glad you got it straightened out. Kudos to you for patience and sticking with it. That was a tough road to travel.

Earlier this spring purchased a '07 Chap with a VP i/o unit. Fortunately the previous owner took decent care of it. I'm agreeing with earlier poster about going with an outboard on next boat unless its a real well cared for vintage i/o non cat model.
