Re: newbie with stringer question

Bedding a stringer is like putting a footer under a wall. It SPREADS the load across a larger cross section then the stringer alone. Larger foot print bedding versus a much narrower stringer.

I just don't really know for sure . Just what I pick up here and there . All I know is most boat restorations I have seen here all pretty much have a resin based bedding from the factory . No one has complained about grinding the pl off the hull for stringer prep . I know we kinda pride ourselves in doing a better than factory rebuild . And 99.999 % of the iboats crew do just that .
Has anyone emailed a boat manufacturer and asked about this subject ?
Either way with all the multi layered glass tabbing on the stringers The hull should be good and solid .

Btw , I have not seen the .0001 % ,s project so it might not exist .. :joyous:

Yes, I did. I added just enough to change the consistancy of the resin so it is not saging and until it has the viscosity of PB. My research is leading me to believe that Cabosil will not add any strenght to the resin and it is just a viscosity modifying agent. Is this not right?
Not much strength, but, it is a binding agent and will assist in keeping the Poly Resin from Cracking and becoming brittle.
