Hello Everyone. I am excited to join on the forum. I just purchased myself a 1995 Bass Boat that was recently redone with a 70 Mercury Outboard. Tested the boat and runs like a pro. I have a question since I am not aware of certain names of parts but was wondering what this part is called and what it does. Can anyone help? Pic is attached. Thank you so much.

Oh hey! A question I know the answer too!

Its part of your speedometer. There is a small hole in the bottom, and a tube that runs from it to your speedo on the dash. As the water pushes pressure against it, the pressure is registered through the tube to the speedo and translates to speed.

More specifically, its called your pitot tube, and variations are used in many other applications than boating as a way to measure fluid pressure.

Just for the record, *I* am not one the guys with great knowledge. I am new here too, I just happened to know about pitot tubes from a previous endeavor. If you took what I knew about boats and put it in a thimble, there would still be plenty of room for your thumb.

What will really startle you is when you're cruising all happy happy and all of a sudden the tube comes off the back of the speedometer and starts spraying everything with water. You have no idea how much water can come through that little hose!

No big deal, put the hose back on and your good to go.

Anyway, nice looking rig!
