Just wanted to introduce myself and hope I'm doing it in the right section. I don't have a boat yet but hope to buy one when I get back from Iraq. I have been reading and learning alot and will learn a lot more. As for what boat I plan on getting it is most likely going to be a Deckboat. It is going to be my first boat but it is what I like so far. It is for me and my two kids to go tubing/fishing and just spending a day at the lake. I hope to learn from this site so when I get back I know what to look for and what to stay away from.

Welcome aboard.
A deck boat is an excellent choice for a family boat.

Re: Newbie here

R1Titan, welcome to iboats. i have a 23 ft Chris Craft deckboat. best thing i ever bought. how old are your children, as this is a big consideration. below 5 they tend to get tired, and sunburn easily. they need a retreat, Bimini top, or closed bow to crawl under and nap, especially if you plan an all day trip. we fish, water sports, and snorkel off our boat. when considering a boat, consider what you are going to use for a tow vehicle, we have a Surburban, for towing this 4800 lb boat. there are many small very nice deck boats available. Hurricane comes to mind. you can also save big bucks buying a 2-4 year old boat.

Re: Newbie here

Well I have a 6 and a 12 year old and the 6 year old is just like the bunny, he keeps on going and going and going lol. I have a 2007 Titan 4x4 so that should be no problem. Here are the big things that I am looking at. I want an I/O, a potty and thats about it that I will not do with out. I also will most likely have some of there friends so it will be a couple of people on the boat. I have used a hurricane fundeck I think it was and it was 19' and for the weekend that I used it I think I did pretty good. Yes I plan on buying used since it will be my first boat and I really don't want to spend more then 25,000. Do you guys think I can get a decent boat & trailer for that amount of money?

Re: Newbie here

you can get a fine boat for that money. we paid $17, for ours 3 years ago, was a $44,000 boat, but is a 1999. we have the Volvo, 5.7L SX which i highly recommend in a boat this size.
