Those Strake reinforcements are needed and should be replaced IF they are waterlogged. If not then leave em alone. Are you not going to remove the entire top cap of the boat?

Cap it coming off and the strike supports are rotted so I have to replace them.. and as I said I'm going to foam under the floor and there will be no way for any water in the bow to get to the stern so I'm looking to create a way that's why I thought I could use the PVC tubing instead of those little pieces of wood... I was thinking the PVC with the 1708 would be much stronger then the original construction.

Couple of questions/Statements. The foam you will be putting in is closed cell. Will be extremely resistant to absorbing water. Water from the bow will be coming from the top of the deck NOT from the bottom. How will the water get from the top of the foam down into the small pvc pipe opening? How will you keep the foam from clogging the ends of the pipe when you pour it into the boat and it begins to expand and fill the boats lower compartments?

Re: Newbee here questions with stringers & floor replacement

Hey Guys, been busy at work, 6 10s a week but I have managed to remove the cap and see that, at lease the transom has been done b4.. I have a lot of grinding done and getting ready to cut my parts for the transom... I have a question though... is there any way of telling if the previous repairs were done with epoxy or poly? I've been grinding all the old work off just in case it's epoxy but in some areas I can see it would be beneficial to leave some off the build on the hull but I don't want to mess it up by putting poly over any epoxy.. Didn't how if someone has a way to identify the difference? Thanks

It is the general consensus that all boats were poly from factory, except for very high end boats. It should be poly.

If its got CSM fibers then it's poly. Epoxy doesn't use CSM. Well normally it doesn't. I guess in some odd ball cases it could. Epoxy also always remains flexible whereas poly becomes really hard and almost brittle.
