Hi all,

I'll be using this site to document some mods, fixes, and generic questions.

I picked up this 1988 SFM 160 a couple weeks back and I'm more than happy with it already.

So far all that I've done is vacuum it, change the battery, and fix the fuel gauge. Adding an additional fish finder in the coming days.

In one of the photos is a 3D printed battery tie down, and a 3D printed Starcraft arrow logo I have made for our small duck hunting boat.

Thanks for looking!

Nice.
Welcome aboard.

Looks like she is ready to go.

Maybe add some side bunks to aid in loading onto the trailer. And a bow tie down strap or chain.

Happy boating.

Thank you!

Yup I actually planned on doing both of those things. I also need to add an additional roller to the front of the trailer because when it rolls back off of that one, it sits down on the trailer frame itself.

Thanks for the advice!

Welcome to the tin looney bin,

Great project!

Looks like you have a Johnson twin cylinder on your SFM. Have you had the boat on the water yet to see how it performs with that motor?

Yes I have! I was told the motor was rebuilt "4 or 5 years ago" But it does really well for 50hp. Going upstream, into the wind, full tank of gas and gear and a friend we got up to 26mph. Can't complain about that!

Very reliable motors after they get some love and updating. I had a 55HP Johnny twin. I repainted and new decals.

looks great! What sort of paint did you use for it? And when you say updating, is there anything specific that you can point to in that regard? The motor runs very well, but after maybe 3-5 minutes of idling it will stall out, only to start right back up. I've yet to mess with the carbs or attempt to clean them. Seems alot of people swear by sea-foam as far as these old outboards go.

Thanks! Apparently I don’t have any good daytime pics of the whole boat.. you get the idea though! Perfect little boat for quick trips on the lake. Especially with some of the small “electric only” lakes that we have nearby. Used to be a very dark green and black, bought the Amazon stencils and got to work. Stars in the rear corners are painted black to stand out :)
