In the process of buying either a used Carver 1988 Mariner or a 1998 Santego. Can anyone give me some insight into either boat?

Thanks

oops I meant 1988 32' Mariner or 1989 Santego 30
both are listed as 34 LOA
Not familiar with either boat and am curious what the differences are what advantages/disadvantages each has.

Well if anyone is interested we did purchase the boat.
Have posted for years in the Starcraft forum where people used to show some interest. Guess my new stomping grounds will be

This is unfair criticism. Don't blame members, blame the lack of Carvers, which is why this section only has 9 pages. There aren't as many Carvers on the water as Starcrafts.

Enjoy your new Carver.

agreed, not many carvers

get a survey. your going to find problems with that vintage carvers. mid 80's carvers usually rotted long before now

are you looking at Merceruiser or VP power?

88's are all in good shape up here in Canada only get used 3-4 months out of a year. Only 300 hours on engines.
Survey came back clean with some insignificant issues.

consider yourself lucky.

most 80's and 90's long since rotted away in Wisconsin (know many people that work and worked there too)

lots of moisture issues in the transom, stringers and keel

not the highest quality boats back then.
