EZ I like the way you setup your bow. That is the same way I was planning on putting mine together. Now that I see it I like it.:)

I was glad Dozer chimed in on battery placement. I did'nt think about battery getting beat up. I would never have a battery in a tin boat without being encased in a box. (I really dont need to weld on the water)

If the LU held pressure and vacuum, it might be the washers on the drain/vent screws. A cheap fix if that's it.
I would check the LU oil after every outing to see if the milk shake came back. I would also replace the washers like GA said. Cheap insurance.

I reinstalled the lower unit yesterday, flushed out with brake clean. Refilled lower unit and planning on splashing her for the first time today. I do not know how this engine performs or if boat takes on water. I figured I would find out before further repairs are made. Just in case I need to perform a major overhaul.
Thanks for the help and input.

Re: New tin 16 SS

Motor ran great for the most part. Drained lower unit to check for water (none found at this splash). I sure am glad there was a bilge pump in the boat though. After running for approx 30 min I decided to flip the switch. Got about a gallon of water out. I knew there was some screws where rivets should be, but appeared to be sealed up with something that looks like rubber cement (very spongy, and not silicone) When I was home, I removed about a dozen screws from the hull.

I need help now trying to find a blind ended rivet or some type of rivet that will seal up when installed. What type of rivet should be used and what type of sealer should be applied to the rivet? I am trying to use the boat for a year or so before a major overhaul if possible. Just want to be safe also. Where is a good place to get rivets?

rivetsonline.com

3/16" diameter closed end blind rivets, preferably w/ aluminum mandrels

Dip the rivet in 5200, stick it thru the hull & drive it home.
