1984 Merc 115 hp
Ok so I installed a new Mallory 9-25500 stator on my motor today and it wont run worth a damn. It stumbled and needed a lot of throttle almost half it seemed, to keep it running at just a idle.
The motor was running great with the old oem stator on it but was changed out because the charging end of it was messed up. Yellow wires were not hooked up when I started up as I was planing on checking voltage.
after taking off the fly wheel I did notice on the new stator (figure1) that there is a black rubber type of coating on the metal areas, and on the old stator (figure2) it is nice and shinny on those metal ares. Am I suppose to remove the coating off the new stator with varsol or something? ..... if not any ideas on whats wrong?
