New Preamble to the Constitution (C&P)

"We the sensible people of the United States, in an attempt to help everyone get along, restore some semblance of justice, avoid more riots, keep our nation safe, promote positive behavior, and secure the blessings of debt-free liberty to ourselves and our great-great-great-grandchildren, hereby try one more time to ordain and establish some common sense guidelines for the terminally whiny, guilt ridden, delusional, and other bed-wetters.

We hold these truths to be self evident: that a whole lot of people are confused by the Bill of Rights and are so dim they require a Bill of NON-Rights."

ARTICLE I:
You do not have the right to a new car, big screen TV, or any other form of wealth. More power to you if you can legally acquire them, but No one is guaranteeing anything.

ARTICLE II:
You do not have the right to never be offended. This country is Based on freedom, and that means freedom for everyone -- not just you! You may leave the room, turn the channel, express a different opinion, etc.; But the world is full of idiots, and probably always will be.

ARTICLE III:
You do not have the right to be free from harm. If you stick a screwdriver in your eye, learn to be more careful, do not expect the tool Manufacturer to make you and all your relatives independently wealthy.

ARTICLE IV:
You do not have the right to free food and housing. Americans are the most charitable people to be found, and will gladly help anyone in need, but we are quickly growing weary of subsidizing generation after generation of professional couch potatoes who achieve nothing more than the Creation of
another generation of professional couch potatoes. (This one is my pet peeve...get an education and go to work don't expect everyone else to take care of you!)

ARTICLE V:
You do not have the right to free health care. That would be nice, but from the looks of public housing, we're just not interested in public health care.

ARTICLE VI:
You do not have the right to physically harm other people. If you kidnap, rape, intentionally maim, or kill someone, don't be surprised if the rest of us want to see you fry in the electric chair.

ARTICLE VII:
You do not have the right to the possessions of others. If you rob, cheat, or coerce away the goods or services of other citizens, don't be surprised if the rest of us get together and lock you away in a place where you still won't have the right to a big screen color TV or a life of leisure.

ARTICLE VIII:
You do not have the right to a job. All of us sure want you to have a job, and will gladly help you along in hard times, but we expect you to take advantage of the opportunities of education and vocational training laid before you to make yourself useful.

ARTICLE IX:
You do not have the right to happiness. Being an American means that you have the right to PURSUE happiness, which by the way, is a lot easier if you are unencumbered by an over abundance of idiotic laws created by those of you who were confused by the Bill of Rights.

ARTICLE X:
This is an English speaking country. We don't care where you are from, English is our language. Learn it or go back to wherever you came from!

ARTICLE XI:
You do not have the right to change our country's history or heritage. This country was founded on the belief in God. And yet, you are given the freedom to believe in any religion, any faith, or no faith at all; with no fear of persecution. The phrase IN GOD WE TRUST is part of our heritage and history,
and if you are uncomfortable with it, TOUGH!!!!

But I was at the supermarket and watched a woman run $45 worth of groceries threw on food stamps and then pull out cash to purchase $80+ dollars in lottery tickets. (and they couldn't just buy one kind they had to have 5 of one, 8 of another, 3 of that one, etc) Seems that many of these common sense concepts are lost on many more people than we would like to believe.

Watching that little lottery ticket manuever made me sick to my stomach. :'(

I am gainfully employed, take nothing from the state or feds and never have, (just contribute to them) and my total budget for lottery tickets last year was $2.

I saw something similar last week. A guy came in to buy a TV and was out of a job. Got accepted for a $3,000 limit on a credit card and bought a nice new LCD. He then made a comment about how he wasnt worried about the card payments, as he was about to go collect in unemployment check.

Sucks to see a system abused that is in place for what I consider a good reason. I know my family would not be where it is at without the unemployment my mom got after her job was outsourced.

I agree Pony, when used for a hand UP we as a nation are wealthy enough to help. I would love to have seen the cashier call the state on these abusers and have their "NEEDS" reassessed. Of course they had a brood of little kids in shabby clothes 5 days out on their weekly bath, running around so I guess we will be paying for this group for the foreseeable future. :'(

It is easy, if you are loaded with prejudices, to assume the worst about that sort of thing.

I embarrassed myself with that sort of assumption once.

Same scenario; checkout at a market, woman buys food with food stamps and pulls out a wad to buy a bunch of lottery tickets.

Well I severely disapprove of state run lotteries in the first place. . . dream tax on the poor. . .and I really, really disapprove of poor folks being willing victims.

So I scolded her for wasting her few dollars on the lottery when she couldn't afford to buy food without foodstamp handouts.

She very cooly explained to me that the food was for her disabled elderly client who supplied the stamps and the money for the lottery tickets was a pool gotten up at the Seniors Daycare where she worked. . .one dollar of it was hers.:$:$

I gave her $5 to add to the pool.

That is what prejudice is, folks, pre-judging people and events out of ignorance.

Come on JB. 80+ bucks worth of tickets. She spit out the game cards names like an auctioneer. She didn't even know how much money she had as the cashier had to frequently update her with the amount left. She had to have purchased 8 different game cards in varying quantities. The kids threw up some low nutrition food on the conveyor for her to pay for.

Sure I might have witnessed the final request of a dying woman and her love for the lottery conducted threw a third party mother Tereasa. Or I saw someone abusing the system. BTW what kind of person would send someone who can only afford nurishment on food stamps, (we have nifty ATM like cards in Wisconsin) to the store with 80+ dollars cash to purchase lottery tickets? I would question my friendship with someone who would watch my children starve to feed their need for lottery tickets. Wife is a teacher, there are some desperately poor people who manage to keep their children at least clean. Maybe not wearing todays meaningless fashions, but clean.

You may have blown it in your case. I would bet a years salary I didn't. The lottery isn't something I give a rats butt about. Never had the desire to waste money on what any idiot has to know is a losing bet. On top of that, I haven't identified this person, I didn't verbally assault this person, and if you don't think my story is true and doesn't occur tens of thousands of times a day, you need to leave the hideout a bit more often.

I have no doubt about the facts you give us, Pointer.

My point is that you assumed things and then complained about them as though they were also facts. Maybe they, or some of them, are facts but you don't know that.

That happens a lot on DC. We tend to assign thoughts and motives to others then attack those thoughts and motives as though they were facts rather than our own inventions.

I don't mean to get on your case personally, I just see too many hard feelings coming from that common practice.
