The history of the .357 is related to the .38 Special. The bullets are the same diameter, but the .357 is more powerful. Most .357 rounds a little long so they don't chamber properly in a .38 - mainly because the .38 chambers won't handle the explosion in the chamber. So, typically a .357 can use both rounds but a .38 can't.

If they say it'll hold it an handle it - they should know. My FIL has an old .45 long colt like that. Fun gun to shoot. And really comfortable.

Seems like if a firearm could shoot mags, they had an additional mag cylinder... At least back in the day.... Firearms have changed so much. I haven't kept up..

Here's where I read it, gm.....

Rollmark: .38 SPECIAL

Models / barrels: All models were made in .38 except the Sheriff. No Sheriff’s have been observed in .38. It’s unlikely but not out of the question that a Sheriff in .38 will be encountered.

Build / Construction: Note the following that is particular to the .38:

Many Great Western .38 revolvers will chamber .357 Magnum.
If that pistol can chamber a 357 mag round, DON'T do it. The huge difference between the chamber pressures a 38 special produces and that of a 357 mag produces, could easily blow up a cylinder, with shrapnel going every direction! Wouldn't be the first time that has happened and it could get nasty to the shooter as well. For you own personal sake, please don't try it. We want you around...

Speaking of magnum, I thought it would be interesting if Taurus (or a qualified gunsmith) could modify the little TCP 738 into a .22 mag caliber.

Things line up fairly well and 15+1 of .22 mag would bring more firepower than the 6+1 of .380ACP.

My bad, your the best, always thought they were the same
No worries. Here's a comparison picture of a few of the .22 rimfire cartridges.

.22 Long, Long Rifle and Magnum.

There are plenty of .22 caliber semi-auto pistols and rifles out there.

Kel Tec makes the PMR-30, a thirty round semi-auto pistol in .22 magnum. Neat gun. A buddy had one and was definitely fun to shoot. It's not really concealable though.

Naw, I'm not going to try it. A .357 mag is a powerful rd. I like my hands and the rest of me... lol

Ok. Time to resurrect this thread. Started looking at this Ruger. It sure is fast. Anyone own it or have shot it? Would mount a lazer site like a 6moa. I was told that Ruger was moving away from LCPs?

That's impressive. Never touched the Max-9, but I'm a pretty big Ruger fan.

I like Ruger, but if ya want something fast with less trigger pull deflection why not go back old school. Like single action auto

Went back and watched the video you posted Musky - I think dude sped his film up some. Watched a couple of more videos on the gun, and no one was getting double taps off like the first vid.

I shot competitively with a Glock that had a similar trigger pull. The 1911 guys were almost always faster on the repeating sets. AD is right - that's a different trigger setup. But, with the Glock, my Taurus and the Ruger (the one I have) I can get a couple off relatively quick - and hit what I wanna'.

The deflection on all these handguns is what caught me by surprise. I'm old school, barely pull the trigger and it fires. I suppose it's a safety thing. All I known is there is way too many choices out there. Only a couple came red dot sight ready. That Max9 and I believe a Tarus that I didn't care for because of the slenderness....
These compacts were Greek to me. Been doing a bunch of research and looked at about 10 yesterday. The guy behind the counter seems to know his stuff. He basically said, find a price point and decide which feels the best.
He also said 9mm are becoming popular and 380 rds are getting tougher to find. I believe the 9mm thing, no clue about the 380 issue.
I held an LCP. Man it's small and feather lite.... Weighs 1/2 of nothing. I can see why it would make a good carry. You would hardly know it was there....

A friend of mine just bought a Max 9, I'm going to shoot hers b4 I "pull the trigger" on anything....lol

This is one I checked out. Really like the grip. A little bigger and has some kind of coating that really grips the hand. No worries about moving..... It was solid..

I looked at the S&W .380 Bodyguard when I bought my LCP. Almost went with it, but the Ruger was cheaper, simpler and I like Ruger guns. I stayed .380 simply so I had a very compact carry gun - especially in the summer.

.380 shoots okay. I wouldn't wanna' compete with it, but for "get me outta' trouble" shooting, it'll do the trick.

I can carry my 9mm Taurus, but it's a little big to comfortably conceal in the summer time. I like the pocket gun mainly because it's easy to carry.

I have an LCP and I like it, but I don't. It is not comfortable in my hand. The newer LCPII is nice, it fits the hand much better for a compact. I have not had any difficulty with getting .380 ammo ... at least I didn't before the boating accident where I lost all my guns.

What a coincidence, I lost everything in a boating accident too.... LCP is just too small once I picked it up. I'm really liking the MP with the fun stuff that I did not know was an option.. Slide needs to be able to accept optics. Standard ones don't... I haven't spec'd it out yet but it may be getting a little too big.. They do make an optics ready slide for the standard model...
