Man this is a great place to learn about what I just bought for only $100! So it begins what looks like a long fun process. I picked up is a 1964 Starcraft Jet with a 1965 Johnson 40hp. I already started the removal of the old floor and while it was wet and rooting I think I can salvage enough for a templet. I will try to load some pics soon :)

Hi & welcome woodsjj!

It's always good to see another Jet/Jet Star. You got a lot better price than I did! My work has been a complete learning process, I've never done it before. I hope the pace can pick up soon if the weather would warm up! I'm stripping paint now and need some warmth for the chem. to work well. Where is spring?

I look forward to seeing your pictures & progress on your work.

This is how it looked after removing the rotten floor. Now time for clean up and figure out what to use to make sure the bottom is sealed any help would be great. 1964 Starcraft Jet 017.jpg1964 Starcraft Jet 016.jpg1964 Starcraft Jet 020.jpg

For $100, I think you did a lot better than I did, your hull looks in pretty good shape. What's recommended and what most people here use to seal the seams & rivets is Gluvit. It needs to be painted or covered up afterwards to protect it from UV. It does deteriorate rather quickly in the sun.

Looking at the transom, I think your plan to replace it is good a good one, the one there now doesn't inspire confidence!!

You need to start a new thread separately in either this Restoration forum or the Starcraft forum to chart your progress & post your pics so all the different projects don't get jumbled together.

For some reason, the attachemnts in your last post come up as "invalid attachments" when clicked on...

Thanks for showing the pics, all that rotten foam sure looks familiar. How does the motor run, have you started it yet? A 40 should be a nice combination with that boat.

Looks like you got some work. Actually it doesn't look that bad inside, and outside looks pretty good. I just finished cleaning up the inside of mine and started putting gluvit on it this weekend. The cleanup is what took me so long. Welcome aboard, you get a lot of help here, and moral support also.

I have only turned the motor over to make sure it was not siezed up. It turned over good just need good weather to try to run it. Thanks for the tip on the Gluvit only on the seams or on the woods floor and new transom also? Great to have nice folks to bounce questions off and the warm welcomes.

Welcome to the Starcraft fleet woodsjj:)

I like the boat, and that vintage Pepsi machine is pretty cool too:D

Those Jets are great hulls, the 3 knee braces on the transom make it strong enough to use as a ski boat. Great boats:)

The pepsi machine was a free one I just had to drive 100 miles to pick it up but it works so well worth it!

Welcome. Another JET, love it. Mine is red over white too. Your pics were deja vu for me and a lot of us. You got one heck of a deal. Looking forward to seeing the progress.

Thanks for the compliment. It's not perfect but a lot better than when I bought it.

A while ago North Beach took it on to produce replacement ID plates and a few of us signed on. He is a long time member of the Starmada. You might private message him for more info.

Well things are progressing slow but steady. I was able to fire up the 1965 Johnson 40 HP! It even shifted into gear both forward and reverse. I am sure the neighbors thought I was crazy at a barrel full of water at 40 degrees dancing the jig while the motor was blowing all kinds of smoke but at least it runs and I have something to work with!
