I would think ebasic power would have some good deals, too......
I actually did see these but,by the time you pay shipping and crate cost(200-300 $) then add spacer blocks exaust pipe and rubber bellows and a cooling kit??
I do see however that this motor has a LOT more horsepower but, this was also a concern as I have seen that the Alpha drives are rated for up to 300 HP.

Re: new motor advice

The motor I bought 1st and am putting up for sale is almost the same as the one advertised as far as completeness. It has risers(no spacers)no motor mounts no engine coupler but has flywheel and also has the seawater pump as it is for a Bravo.I put it on Craigslist for $5,750.It is a 2006 Mercruiser so it does have the newer dry-joint exaust

Re: new motor advice

I didn't do enough homework 1st,just listened to what I was being told by the shop selling it.It is a Bravo verses my Alpha. Also the angle on the risers is different from mine and I need the spacer blocks. He also told me that I could not put a Fuel injected on my alpha because the motor needed to "comunicate"with the outdrive, this carbed model is what I would have to install to match up and this motor would bolt right in.

There is problems with this already! The Bravo engine has an engine driven raw water pump, Not bad if you want to run a full FWC system, but you have to install a thru hull pickup for water, and not go thru the outdrive.
Next is the shift interrupt system. :You MUST have that for your drive to work or you won't get it out of gear. The Bravo wiring harness and ignition module are not set up to allow a shift interrupt system. Plus the Alpha engine would come with the bracket and switches installed.

Your best bet would be to cancel that order and get what you actually want (and need) The MPI engines will work with the Alpha Gen II, just take it a little easy on takeoff and you should be fine.

Actually, already have the BRAVO,still attached to the shipping crate sitting in my shop. Now have also ordered an ALPHA model which my outdrive requires. The differences you just pointed out were not divulged to me by the person I bought it from.On the contrary,he convinced me it would work and that they had done several of them with no problem.

Of course, this is also the person who said I couldn't use a fuel injected with my alpha.Only today(3 days after ordering a carborated model)did I find out that I COULD use an injected one. What a pisser.

Re: new motor advice

I assume the company you are dealing with is going to make things right? Can you order an MPI engine? They do NOT need to talk to the outdrive, but they do need to be setup for an Alpha for the same reasons.
BUT if you want one with FWC, be sure to get it with it already installed if you go with the MPI. The ECM (about $1200 and no exhanges allowed) has to be changed when going from raw water cooled to FWC system. When factory installed, it's already done.

Re: new motor advice

Two different companies. The Bravo was purchased from a boat dealer out of state over the phone so I'm on my own with this one and will sell it.As for the Alpha one I just orderedwith a cooling kit that I have to install, this was locally ordered and I could possibly change it to an MPI IF I hurry. That is why I came HERE.I was trying to get some input from others as far as MPI or carborated.

So Don,I take it you are PRO fuel injection. Are they a lot better fuel economy wise or just a little? Also, other pros or cons?

Re: new motor advice

Here's a suggestion, Call and put a hold on the order. Tell them you are considering going to MPI, then take a deep breath, come back with time to talk about it and decide what you REALLY want and Need to do to make this all work together properly without the help of panic.

Re: new motor advice

When putting a hold on this,I asked about the ECM situation with the closed cooling and the parts manager said he's never heard of such a thing, but he will check with his supplier on Tuesday.So....
