Re: New member with UN-new boat...Need help identifying if possible!

well besides this invader I'm working on, I've also got a 95 Kawasaki 750ss jet ski I'm doing some work to. I've been doing some searching online and can't seem to find any detail on best way to flip a PWC upside down or at least on its side so I can repair bottom of the hull. Everything I've saw or read was just a vague explanation to drain fluids, remove battery then flip upside down pretty much. I'm needing a little more detail on exactly HOW TO flip it over. Do I need to fab a sort of makeshift cradle? Or could I use some wide straps to suspend it? I really only need it turned on its side to finish fiberglassing a few spots that I cannot get to with it being on the trailer. And to make it even harder I have to come up with a way to flip it where it can be done by 2 people. I've got a friend that can lend some muscle but could see this being much easier if I had 4 or 5 people to help with flipping it.

Well I went to the clerks office today to try and get paperwork started to get title. It's not going to be a big deal to get title but I'm unsure on the title application what to put under boat type & propulsion? would boat type be sport boat?? And by propulsion are they just wanting me to list what kind of motor? i.e. outboard/inboard?

I can tell you for sure as I am in Canada but I have fill out the forms here and you are on the money. They want a hull# as well.

In TN it'd probably just be listed as a "Pleasure Boat."

If ya' wanna' have some fun though, see if they'll list it as an "Experimental Stealth Prototype." ;)

here in PA, my titles have nine classes of boats including runabout, racing, and other. If I were you I would try for other since the boat is not specifically set up for racing and I personally think it is too small to be called a runabout. My second choice though would be runabout since it is not an open boat, you sit in a cockpit, and it does have remote steering

if TN is anything like it is just a few miles above ya here in KY, you can damn near license a shopping cart...I've heard of some states bein super strict & difficult to get vehicles titled, I've not had any problems other than buying a wrecked vehicle that comes with certificate of desctruction and having to go thru salvage & rebuild. I've found them to be pretty picky over the years. Also when I went to the clerks office I gave them the numbers on side of boat for them to run thru system to try and check status of previous title and there was no record what-so-ever of it. Which is better because the way the lady talked if it was in the system & I was trying to apply for title the previous owners from 1986 would have to apply for title. Hell they might not even still be alive for all I know. Does anyone reading this thread happen to have a 10ft invader (that's titled) so I could know for sure what boat type is exactly? Thanks again for all the help guys

Probably wouldn't bother though - we don't even register trailers in this state.

same way here as of now but word is that even non-commercial use trailers (not sure what size trailers are included) are going to be required to be licensed. But even though I've heard numerous times this was going to take affect, never heard when & never heard it directly from a DOT officer so who knows. I've got a buddy that lives here in KY but has it licensed in TN. He claimed that title wasn't required to license boat in TN but only Bill of sale is required. Said that he's supposed to just have it in TN waters at least once a year. Didn't sound right to me but regardless I know he somehow licensed his runabout without a title. I have no clue what laws in TN are but considering you live there maybe you can shine some light on the subject? Thanks,

None is a valid option for older boats in KY.

We don't title a boat in TN, just register. A completed bill of sale will do the trick.

The way the code reads (very roughly) is that if you boat the majority of your time in TN waters, you should register your boat in TN. The way it reads from the TWRA website is not clearly defined (to me), so you may want to check with the county clerk in the TN county you'd register it in (I'm guessing Trousdale, Jackson or Clay for you).

if anywhere in TN it'd be Dale Hollow or Cumberland, not sure what counties either of those waters are

Dale Hollow would be Clay (Though could be Pickett or Overton), and Lake Cumberland all stays on your side of the line.
