New decals

I want to put some new decals on my 40HP Johnson outboard. Part of the old ones are missing. Do I have to peal all the old ones off, or can I just stick them over the old ones? If not, what's the best way to get the old ones off? Thanks.

Use a heat gun and a putty knife to get the old ones off. Use some rubbing alcohol to remove any adhesive, and install new decals.

If you are careful, you may not need to repaint the cowling.
