Re: New car for my Admiral ??

I thinking about the price range of a Ford Focus or a VW Beetle.

OK, price range sensitive . . . I think the new Ford Focus is a nice looking car . . . and doesn't it have the thing where you talk to it and it adjusts the temperature controls, etc.?

I know this isn't what you want, but after having a couple of mini SUV's in the family (my Outlander and Linda's RAV4), I wouldn't have any other type for my small family car. They're very, very handy. Same outside dimensions as any small sedan, but you sit a little higher and can carry an awful lot of light stuff around.

I'd recomend looking @ Mazda. I had an '02 Protoge 5 that had 250K miles on it, and still running strong, when I got an '07 Mazda 3. It's now got 125K miles and looks/drives like it's brand new. In each case, I've never done anything other than replace wear items. Brakes, Oil chg's, Tires, Batteries, etc.

In September I bought myself a 2012 Ford Fusion with the 3.0 V6. It is my favorite car that I've ever had and my first ever Ford. I highly recommend one. In the smaller segment, the Focus are nice as are the Chevy Cruze's and both are well reviewed I believe. My previous car was an '09 Accord and I gotta say, in my opinion, the Hondas and Toyotas, while nice cars, aren't worth the price premium over the domestics anymore.

Just last night the admiral and I were driving through a local dealership and she said "whats thats" It caught her eye, it was the new chevy sonic. I`d never seen one before so we got out and gave it the once over. I have to say we were impressed for a small car its sharp, 40mpg, 10 airbags, 5 star crash rating. It comes with either a turbo 1.4l 5spd, or a 1.8l 6spd auto with thumb control shifter. This one was a hatchback but they do come in sedan. We came home and did some research on it and fully loaded with everything it still comes in under $22k. I`m not sure you want to go that small off a vehicle but it might be worth a look. It beats all the other vehicles in comparisons for its range.

I have to admit, the friggin' product placement in that show is quite effective. Looking at that fully loaded red Cruze in that show and I'm like "I think I want a Chevy Cruze". You know a vehicle on that show is going to get wrecked when it's anything but a new Chevy.

Re: New car for my Admiral ??

Confession i am in the bussiness and with Ford. I am also very much aware that each person in this forum has a very personal opinion about there car of choice.....actually car selection is more critical than choosing a wife or husband believe that i listen everyday to peoples perception's of auto's and have come to learn to respect that.

Ford's new Focus while still just a car is a leap frog in design...technology...comfort and reliabilty. None of that matter's however if it does not "blow up her skirt"....That's a quote from a middle age soccer mom.

IF you can get the car of your choice take it to a Ford lot place them side by side and start drinking in the sum of each car. It will amaze you..I have done this with salesman to get the point across. Its one thing to read all of the superalitves it actually much differnt to see and feel it.

Heres a challenge take a 3 series BMW and a 25000 dollar Focus do a side by side comparison....Drive them feel them and get the hang of Fords new tech...Then look at what the 3 series offer's you the feeling of sport luxury....

Now i know the Bmw is faster...is it quiter....does it offer as much in terms of luxury...You may be surprised...Umm just dont take them to the track.

9 out of 10 mistresses prefer the chevy Cruze.

I just made that up. What do I know, I'm no mistress. I did have one for a rental a lil while ago, and it was nice. Gas mileage was great.

How about a Nissan Altima. Nice size and a proven drive train.
Nice car. I actually did buy one, a 2008, for my girlfriend (now wife) as a wedding present. Nissan is redoing them.

We had the opportunity to drive a rented Chevy Cruze from Chicago to NY. We were very impressed. It was an LT with the turbo 1.4L.

If she's like my Admiral, it was probably the color that sold her. In any event, Hyundai seems to be turning out a pretty decent car these days. Certainly can't argue with the price! Congrats!

basically what I did is got a feel for what the wife wanted, and then made her drive everything that met her criteria and a few that didn't. We drove the mid size hyundai, man for like 22 or 23 that car was absolutely loaded, gps, leather, rearview camera. I thought it was a really nice car.
anyway this way it was her decision, she picked what she wanted and the color, options and I went out and negotiated it. Pretty simple. Sounds like you got it worked out and I'm sure she'll be happy.

I'm very interested in the cruze diesel, I'm sure it's an isuzu engine but should be an interesting ride, I actually like the cruze styling better than the jetta, far better. Better warranty too if I'm not mistaken.
