Re: New Boat

That sounds about right. But I wanted to reach max. recommended rpm and opted for the 18". On the 4 blade prop, I got the 17" because I'll lose about 50-100 rpm's with the extra blade that should get me in the 5100 range.

Sounds right but I've found that after 6 props the best is what you try out and like on your boat.

I never realized that such small changes in props would make such different changes on how the boat handled and then throw in 4-5 people it changes all over again !

Re: New Boat

Well, after waiting for more than three weeks, I finally got my 4 blade, 17p Revolution. Man...it's a heavy prop. It's got a nice long hub on it. First chance I get, I'll test it and will let you all know how it performs.

Re: New Boat

Well, I was finally able to test the 4-blade Revolution this past weekend. Got up on plane immediately and stayed on plane at very, very slow speeds (10-12 mph). A couple of things I noticed was my rpm's dropped from 5,200 with 3-blade Vengeance to 4,600. A loss of 600 rpm's...not good. I was told that I should replace pitch for pitch when going from 3 blade to four blade prop and should experience 50-100 loss in rpms...hmmmm. I also lost 5 mph at WOT (60 to 55) and noticed more vibration in the boat. Now I'm wondering if there's something wrong with the prop like unbalanced or not true. Anyone have any suggestions what can be causing this?

Re: New Boat

I run a four blade solas prop on my q71 5.0mpi and bravo 1 outdrive. It came with the 19 pitch vengence. I wanted more holeshot, so I went with the 4 blade solas in a 19p. The boat planed slower and lost 8 mph on top end...and it would only run about 4400 rpm. Went with a 17 pitch 4 blade, outstanding holeshot, holds turns tighter, cruises faster at midrange. I did lose approx. 5mph on top but it runs 55 and turns 4900 rpms....but I don't care about top end. The only issue I have ever had with it pulling a skier was me slaloming. We had 8 adults in the boat, me slalom. All the 220+ lb guys were in the back, it was wanting to plane a little slow. Moved 2 guys up front...bam out of the water I went.

Hey, thanks lrdchaos. Love your avatar! She's very beautiful.

I like how the four blade prop performed and I think I'll do what you did and drop a couple inches on the pitch. Also, since everyone on this forum recommends trim tabs, I was thinking of installing them on my boat but I can't see where they would mount on the molded hull of the Q7i. With the full load, what were you turning, rpm wise?

Re: New Boat

I really don't know what I turn with a full load....I know I can run 4850-4900 with 4 people in the boat, approx 800 lbs with people and gear. I've never run the boat wide open with more people than that. I've thought about trim tabs, but like I said, that was the only incident I've ever had to move people and I really can't justify the money on the tabs right now. Most of the time we have 4-6 people in the boat and it runs great. Do you have the alpha or the bravo drive? I have the Bravo I 1.65 gear ratio, so that might throw some variance into what your trying to accomplish.
