Hey guys I'm new and I just bought a mint condition 16' sprint. I own a atv shop so i know my way about motors, This is my first boat and when I look at the motor it seems pretty strait forward. My question is the boat runs great but I'm topping out at 30mph. Does this sound right? I know it's not a speed demon but I would think it would at least hit 45mph.

Is the motor winding out to 5500 RPMs? Post back!

Without looking up the max RPM, I would think that 5000-5500 is about the right RPM.

Re: New and have a question.

Is your speed from a GPS or speedometer? Is the outboard trimmed properly if it is trimmed in it will reduce your speed and what size prop do you currently have on it?

Re: New and have a question.

You have to bear with me because I'm very new to boats. I have it trimmed as much as possible without it hopping and it's the original prop and I don't have anyone I could swap with.
Thanks for the replies guys keep them coming!

Re: New and have a question.

My Sprint 262 w/Johnson 88 gets 39mph consistently and 40 on occasion. This is the reading from the GPS.
