putting in a roller 350, and was wondering whats the best weight oil to use for break in and after break in? I would like to run full synthetic after break in.

Also as for oil filter, I prefer not to use the Fram filters on my engines, but I am a Ford guy and stick with Motorcraft filters for that. Whats everyone recommend on the GM side of the world?

If you are expecting a simple, awe inspiring answer to your question, forget it, there isn't one. Pick an oil and go for it.
No matter what oil it is, someone, somewhere, sometime, has used it and would recommend it to everyone because it worked for them.
Here are some previous theads about which oil to use. Same goes with filters.

Its a chev engine, AC Delco filters are GMs recomended filter #1218, as for oil pick the brand you like and trust, break in with 5w 30 or 10w30 for 6 or 8 hours running, then change oil and filter I would recomend a 15w50 synthetic but its up to you. Good luck with your new motor and happy boating

I agree, Wix is a very good filter. Also I would like to add, that on a NEW roller cam, and lifters, its more important to break them in first. You can break them in on the trailer, by starting the motor and running it for 20 min at idel and up to 3000 RPM. Then change oil and filter, and then run under load (boat in water) for at least 8 hrs to seal or wear in the rings. I would use 10w30. Change oil and filter, and then use synthetic. I personally am a Amsoil guy, and use 20w-50 in four strokes.

I am pretty sure that break in proceedure is for flat tappet cams, roller cams do not require a break in.
