55 merc throttle problem

I have disconnected throttle from carbs and have found that it is from the twist grip into the carb connection. Is there a set of gears or a bearing that has to mesh here. If someone knows the procedure to disassemble to get to the problem or a printout of same would be appreciated.

first things first,merc never had a 55 hp engine,if you mean a 5.5 what year is it?

It is a 55 hp merc seapro and yes they do have this horsepower I believe it is around 1996. Still looking for a breakdown of the tiller handle.
