Can anyone help me find a source for a CDI box for my 1988 Yamaha model 25 esg?
The box says 6L2-10 on it.

well if no one makes them any more, you are stuck with trying to find a used one, or finding a different motor.
are you sure the cdi is bad?

Megazip.net has them for ~$800, but the motor isn't worth much more than that. I've used that company multiple times, having owned 2 JDM vehicles.

Impex Japan lists for $204+ shipping. I have used them as well, but Impex acts as a parts locator in Japan. Having a listing does not guarantee that it is available

I would try to find the cheapest Yamaha snowmobile CDI from that time period and see If I could make it work. The snowmobile aftermarket is a little bigger than the outboard one. I am pretty sure that Yamaha uses a lighting coil in the outboards as well as their sleds so the ignitions are similar. Maybe something to look at. Maybe need the coil too?

Thanks you all for your help. As for the CDI being bad, it's getting volts from the pulse and charge coils, but no output to the ignition coils. I can't understand why Yamaha doesn't offer them anymore.

Any manufacturer cannot hold all parts for all time.

The failure rate of the CDI assembly is so low that it makes no sense to hold a part for which the demand is all but non-existent.

Thank goodness for the innerweb where it is much easier now to find an obsolete part.

Modern corporate thinking.----Along with shorter production runs.----Means these miniature electronic parts are no longer available.------Compare this to the availability of parts for say a 1955 Johnson / Evinrude 5.5 HP magneto.----They used that magneto for 40 years on 1.5 HP to 40 HP motors.----Parts are everywhere for those easy to fix / maintain magnetos.

the kill switch and ignition switch grounds the spark voltage to kill or keep the voltage from reaching the spark plugs to keep the motor from running

you may want to be sure the switches and/or wire to the CDI is not grounding keeping the voltage from showing up
