Re: need tilt/trim pump

If you rebuilt the motor you may want to see if you over torqued the top cap retaining screws. If they are to tight the motor wont turn fast enough to provide full pressure. Same if they are too loose so be careful. I had mine up and down several times when I rebuilt mine before I found the sweet spot. Generally speaking with a screww driver go until the are just tight and then anothe rhalf turn or so. There is a bearing just under the cap that won't turn if too tight. If the pump is shot for sure you can get a replacement pump and motor assy. here on iboats or go to Master Tech Outboard Parts. The parts are aftermarket but cheaper than what the limited avail. OE parts cost.

Well they say education is best if earned--after finding (not easy) and buying 2 used pumps I have determined the problem is with the newly rebuilt motor//the armature is worn shortened and does not engage the gear drive properly(at all), next step replace/repair armature, thanks for your help, Dan

Are you sure you have the proper shims on the top of the armature? If I remember correctly, there is a shim and a spring washer there to hold the armature down.

Yes that could be the problem, also the repair shop (automotive) replaced the top and could have gotten 1 that is deeper that OEM, I am checking these things now as the armature will slide up and down, thanks again

you need to use 1/64 gasket material and there is a 5/32 ball bearing that goes into top of armature. they probably got one or both wrong. if the end of your armature was worn out then you wouldn't have been working before the motor went out.
